She Must NOT Have Children

Here's a news article of this woman Linda Hirshman talking about how woman staying at home is such a terrible thing. Yea sure Feminist or not a woman that actually has no children and has never been riddled with this age old tradition or discussion, has absolutely no room to talk. But I also agree that if a woman needs to provide and wants to work outside the home, go for it, thats wonderful.

"We care because what they do is bad for them, is certainly bad for society, and is widely imitated, even by people who never get their weddings in the Times," Hirshman wrote. "This last is called the 'regime effect,' and it means that even if women don't quit their jobs for their families, they think they should and feel guilty about not doing it."

Nikki Wins Miss HU!

Nikole Churchill has been my best friend for around 10 years. She has been my rock since the day I met her. She was the student nurse who assisted the doctors during my labor with Tristan. She is Tristan's godmother and my Maid of Honor! Congratulations to her for all her hard work and display of confidence, poise, and beauty inside and certainly out!

H1N1 Vaccination for Infants

As a mother, more importantly as a student mother, I worry about the health and safety of my child all the time. Not only because I do not want my child to become sick but because the little things mean time away from school for me. The debate over the new H1N1 Swine Flu vaccination is one that has also been troubling me. On one hand I would feel so guilty if my child were to get sick and die in the extreme case, or mildly if he was hospitalized. So does that mean I should vaccinate my child with a recently discovered drug, not widely tested and recently new? I feel as a mother I could not live with the guilt knowing I could have done something if my child did get the flu, so as a mother I decided that Tristan would be recieving the vaccination when made available. It is up to every parent to decide what is best for their child. I found these sights helpful and informational in my search as well as talking to your childs doctor.

P90x

As a young mother, I definitely still worry about how my body looks. Finding time to workout between school, work, and watching a baby is difficult. But I recently got hooked onto p90x. This revolutionary system matches a meal-plan with a workout plan to fit the needs of everyone. I have lost 5 lbs and 1 1/2 inches in a week. Here is the link to the website in case you want to check it out. It's 90 days of hard work, but only to get a hard body!

I recommend trying skydiving to any new mom who thought giving birth was the most exhilarating experience she has ever had!
I did it 5 weeks after having a c-section!

In Need of a Babysitter!

One thing is always for certain in the Navy: nothing is for certain! Of course Jason has been called to deploy to some school once again when I need him most to finish school. I had worked out a deal with a friend who would help me with Tristan and I would watch another girl for her while she went to school so that she had a job in the evenings... but of course that fell through and I'm left pretty screwed. So now I am in the process of looking for someone to watch Tristan at night when I'm in school and Jason isn't home or has to work late. The problem then becomes us not wanting him in daycare (which isn't open at night anyways) and not trusting other people. My mom just recently moved to Hawaii so that leaves me with no family to watch him either. Jason is finally realizing as well how hard going to school and raising a baby are since he's having to watch Tristan at night. After arguing with me to go back to school and about finding a job, he has come to the realization that things were much easier when I was just staying home with Tristan and my only responsibility was to the both of them. I've missed a few classes already because we just have no childcare. Tristan is the best baby in the world, i'm truly blessed, and it makes me sick I'm putting him through this. I want to get a degree but my heart is with my baby. So now I'm stuck trying to find a trustworthy babysitter in time for classes next week so i can just get through the semester.

First Feeding

Most people find breast feeding disgusting and I certainly understand a guy not understanding. I was raised to think this is perfectly normal and in fact you are supposed to enjoy it. Again I don't expect people to understand, and I'm never one to tell someone they should or should not do something. I have found that this is the healthiest, cheapest, and honestly the most enjoyable method for my family and I. But school has taken a tole and suddenly I've found little time to continue doing this. This is obviously a consequence of taking 19 credit hours, taking care of another child, my husband, and our homes. Tristan has begun eating cereal and sweet potatoes (all naturally organic foods that I make him in our kitchen, so they are truly "fresh"). I still nurse when I can because it's calming for me to slow down and relax but it is also comforting and a great bonding experience for baby and I after being away so long all day. I have chosen Enfamil Premium a new formula, for any new mom interested. It's awesome, he completely adapted and unbelievably he has had no problems with his stomach! But I can't wait to introduce new foods, it's great to watch how he reacts to all the new tastes!

i LOVE the Navy!

Let me pick a bone with the United States Navy. Apparently they can take money from your paycheck without telling you and we're not talking pennies. While in Iraq Jason EARNED a special pay. When he transfered to a new command they said that pay came out of the wrong "account" but he was still due the money but the damage had been done. How do you just take thousands of dollars out of someone's paycheck without warning them. Never mind he's not a single guy living in the barracks and eating at a mess hall. He has a family, not to mention a brand new baby!! Thank you again Uncle Sam for adding to my stress. Take away from the people that defend our nation, that's not just a cliche he is actually on the ground arresting terrorists! maybe it's time to send a note to the CNO. Welcome to life as a navy wife Emily!
